James Dixon assesses this fat burning supplement in our Trimtone review. Is it just for women? Does it work? Find out the answers to that and more below…
Weight loss is a tricky business. It comes with plenty of pitfalls, not least of which is human error as the rigors of running a calorie deficit whilst trying to maintain an active lifestyle hit you hard.
Luckily, there is a form of supplement tailor made to overcome some of the nastier side effects associated with a weight loss diet and activity program. These are thermogenic fat burners, designed to improve your metabolic function, suppress your appetite, and give you plenty of energy.
The thermogenic game is a broad church filled with plenty of different brands and formulations. A few stand out from this crowd for their usability, utility, and sheer quality. Trimtone sits squarely at the forefront of the thermogenic marketplace for these reasons – it’s one of the best in the world, leading the industry alongside a handful of others.
Today we’ll assess just how good it is in this Trimtone review.
Our Verdict On Trimtone
If you’re looking for a supplement that can streamline your weight loss journey, make it simpler, easier to manage, and more effective, then a thermogenic fat burner like Trimtone would be a good idea.
Trimtone seeks to attack weight loss from several fronts.
It can boost your metabolism so that you burn a few more calories each day, gives you plenty of energy to overcome the fatigue associated with a weight loss diet, and suppresses your appetite, making it far easier to maintain that all-important calorie deficit.
I’ll get a bit of a gripe out the way before starting off on how good Trimtone is (because hats off to it, it really is good).
Trimtone is marketed exclusively to women. This perhaps makes sense from a commercial point of view – why not try to corner the market in fat burners for women when plenty of Trimtone’s competitors look a little vanilla, a little unspecified?
However, it’s pretty erroneous from a practical point of view. There is nothing in its formula that is in any way specific to women over men. Men will benefit from it as much as women.
To put off a swathe of the population for marketing purposes is a bit of a shame, because Trimtone is a very, very good product. I’m a man and I’ve benefitted profoundly when trying it out.https://www.connected-health.org/go/trimtone-2/
It’s made by Health Nutrition Limited, a UK-registered manufacturer known for their high quality. They have made plenty of top shelf products over the years – I would always trust them as a first port of call when looking for any form of supplement. They’ve been going for over a decade, which is a long time to survive in the modern supplement market.
Trimtone itself is a safe, highly reputable thermogenic fat burner. It is a good aid to any weight loss program, a supplement in the truest sense of the word. This is an important distinction to bear in mind as you look into fat burners – they are not magic pills that can melt fat away.
If they are promising to be, their manufacturers are lying.
No natural supplements will burn fat in and of themselves. Rather, they aid your existing weight loss efforts.
And Trimtone is a perfect aid. It will do everything you would want from a thermogenic fat burner. It should boost your metabolic rate, suppress your appetite, and give you plenty of energy, thus undoing many of the side effects of restricted dieting whilst also boosting your weight loss efficiency.
How Trimtone Works
Trimtone works as any top-quality thermogenic fat burner does. It will aid you in three very distinct ways, improving the efficiency of your weight loss journey even as it makes everything a little easier to cope with.
The efficiency comes from an improved metabolic rate. In raising rates of thermogenesis – or the conversion of potential energy (as stored fat) in your body into heat – it causes your body to use up more calories each day.
This can be anything from around fifty to one hundred extra calories.
Obviously, using up calories will be beneficial to your weight loss as it will help to open up that much-needed calorie deficit. It will also be particularly important during a calorie deficit as your metabolism may tend to slow down when underfed, impairing your ability to lose weight.
Thus, improving thermogenesis will essentially optimize your metabolic rate for weight loss.
However, this is all useless without a good calorie deficit upon which to build. You will need to cut out around 500 calories per day to lose around 1 lb. (or .5 kg) per week, which is generally a good aim. This can come from a mixture of eating less and doing more – try cutting 300 calories from your daily diet whilst performing an extra 200 calories’ worth of cardio, for instance.
However, this is easier said than done.
It is hard to under-eat. Hunger pangs and cravings will get to you. Brain fog, fatigue, and lethargy are all common.
Trimtone seeks to mitigate all of these effects.
Firstly, it will suppress your appetite using a couple of potent, well-known ingredients. This will make it far easier for you to stick to your restricted eating plan. Secondly, it will give you a good energy boost, cutting through that brain fog and fatigue, boosting you and enabling you to stay as active as you want and need.
Thus, Trimtone isn’t a miracle cure; there is no magic weight loss. Instead, it simply makes every stage of your calorie deficit and active lifestyle easier to manage, a little more efficient, and, in general, far more pleasant than it otherwise would be.
These are all the hallmarks of a good thermogenic fat burner.
Any supplement will rise or fall based on the quality, efficacy, and potency of their ingredients.
Trimtone is, of course, no exception. It maintains its high quality by using some of the best ingredients out there in its formula. Though quite a lean formula, it nevertheless packs a good punch, very ably doing everything you will need it to do.
The formula begins with glucomannan, one of my favorite weight loss ingredients. It’s an incredibly potent form of dietary fibre proven to work expertly at appetite suppression. Once ingested, it swells to around fifty times its starting size in your stomach, allowing you to feel fuller for longer.
Dietary fibre is incredibly important to your overall health and wellbeing.
It plays key roles in your digestive health, cholesterol levels, blood pressure and glucose levels, and much else besides.
However, it’s often under eaten during a calorie deficit. We often quite rightly go light of carbohydrates during a deficit. As fibre is an indigestible form of carbohydrate, we often skip out on it when we eat restrictively.
Including glucomannan in its formula is a very good move on Trimtone’s part, therefore. You get the weight loss benefits of eating a good fibre source whilst also mitigating the restrictions placed on your dietary intake by your weight loss efforts.
Caffeine generally plays a key role in thermogenic fat burners. It offers advantages across all areas on which a good thermogenic fat burner should work.
Firstly, obviously, it will give you plenty of energy. It will help to cut through that brain fog and fatigue that I mentioned above. It will power you through the active lifestyle you need to stay fit and healthy whilst slimming down.
Secondly, caffeine is one of the best thermogenic compounds going. It will raise your metabolic rate, using up those extra precious calories. Much of Trimtone’s thermogenic element comes from its caffeine contents.
Finally, caffeine is a mild appetite suppressant, working in conjunction with glucomannan to make it easier for you to maintain your calorie deficit.
Trimtone makes use of one of the best, most potent caffeine sources going – caffeine anhydrous.
Do be aware, though. Trimtone is far from the most caffeine rich thermogenic fat burners out there. This being said, it still contains 120 mg per serving, which is about equal to a double espresso.
If you’re sensitive to caffeine, you may want to consider your options carefully here and consider talking to your doctor before taking Trimtone.
Trimtone also includes both green coffee and green tea extract, which bring benefits above and beyond their contribution to that caffeine content.
Firstly, raw, un-roasted green coffee beans are rich in antioxidants such as chlorogenic acid. This can allow for a reduction in fat absorption, improved metabolic function, and more even, lower insulin levels.
Green tea also brings a lot of antioxidants to bear, particularly catechins. It can help weight loss by reducing carbohydrate absorption and storage.
Finally, Trimtone includes the lesser used ingredient grains of paradise, or aframomum melegueta. It’s a form of ginger that brings about a particularly potent thermogenic effect. As well as increasing thermogenesis, and thus increasing your energy expenditure and calorie use, it can help to activate brown adipose tissue (BAT) and reduce overall visceral fat.
Grains of paradise can also help to regulate blood sugar levels. This will result in long lasting, even energy levels, as well as a reduction in food cravings.
Does Trimtone Work?
Yes, Trimtone works very well at what it promises to.
Again, it isn’t a miracle cure. It won’t help to melt away excess fat in and of itself. You cannot take it, change nothing about your lifestyle, and expect to see results. This isn’t how thermogenic fat burners of its kind work.
Rather, as above, Trimtone improves efficiency in weight loss whilst also mitigating many of the side effects of running a calorie deficit.
And it does this very, very well.
Firstly, it gives you a decent energy boost. It isn’t on par with more stimulant-heavy thermogenic supplements like Instant Knockout. However, it contains enough to get your metabolism working overtime whilst cutting through that brain fog and fatigue. Combined with the grains of paradise, you should see longer lasting energy with few of the crashes associated with greater stimulant volume.
This also results in a decent, if mild, thermogenic effect. Again, it’s not the most powerful thermogenic supplement out there. However, it’s enough to give you that little boost, keeping your metabolism ticking over even as you enter your calorie deficit.
However, its main effects are in appetite suppression and satiation. That glucomannan and grains of paradise combination is incredibly effective. I didn’t even need to think about maintaining a calorie deficit, really. It just sort of came quite naturally. Even if I hadn’t planned it, I think that the glucomannan and grains of paradise would have caused a deficit as I simply didn’t get hungry.
If you struggle with your appetite during a calorie deficit, Trimtone is probably the one for you. I can think of few other supplements that can sate your hunger and cravings like it.
I tend to struggle with cravings – I’m a snacker. Thus, Trimtone was perfect for me. I found myself almost effortlessly losing a pound or so per week when taking it, all whilst being able to live the active lifestyle to which I am accustomed.
It was brilliant. I would recommend it to anyone.
Further Evidence To Support Trimtone
The ingredients in Trimtone are all well researched, all scientifically justified.
For instance, caffeine has been proven to improve your metabolic rate, especially in large doses. One study showed that 4.5 mg of caffeine per pound of body weight (or 10 mg per kg) can increase your metabolism by as much as 13%. However, this would make for around 680 mg of caffeine for somebody weighing 150 pounds, or 68 kg, which is an unsafe amount.
Another study showed a link between caffeine intake and long term weight loss. However, even this was a faint difference – it amounted to about a one pound, or half kilogram, difference over 12 years.
So it does work, it’s just a small difference.
However, other studies looking at successful weight loss have highlighted caffeine as a contributing factor. Those who consumed the most were generally more successful in keeping up their weight loss over time. In addition, caffeine intake has been linked with lower levels of ghrelin, the hunger hormone, highlighting its use as an appetite suppressant.
Fibre in general, and glucomannan specifically, have been proven to aid weight loss.
It takes up room in your stomach. As above, glucomannan has been shown to increase to around 50 x its original volume, increasing feelings of satiety. It can also slow down stomach emptying, which adds to this effect. According to a landmark 1997 study, soluble fibres can reduce the absorption of other nutrients, which should also aid with weight loss.
Finally, fibre can feed your good gut bacteria, as per a 2006 study. A healthy microbiome has been linked with lower overall fat levels and higher levels of fatty acids like butyrate, which have been tentatively linked with protection against fat gain, per a 2009 study.
Grains of paradise is also very well scientifically justified. For example, a 2014 study linked it with higher energy expenditure (more calories used) and a decrease in visceral fat in humans.
Trimtone is a fantastic product.
Though the individual effects it gives are a little restrained, the cumulative effect is quite something. The small extra calorie burn is welcome when your metabolism might otherwise be on the sluggish side. The fibre content is fantastically good both for your overall health and for your weight loss goals. And the energy kick is mild enough that it won’t give you the jitters or result in banging headaches, but strong enough that it will cut through the brain fog and lethargy that often come hand in hand with calorie deficits.
I don’t like their branding. It seems foolish to me that they would market solely to women when, realistically, their formula has nothing at all gender specific in it. I used it to great effect, managing to lose weight more comfortably than ever; any man would experience the same.
However, this niggle aside, Trimtone seems to me an almost perfect example of a good thermogenic fat burner.
