As a thermogenic fat burner, it is designed primarily to elicit greater rates of thermogenesis. This means that you will burn more calories per day, which will help you to maintain the calorie deficit needed to lose weight. At the same time, it will help you to eat less by sating your appetite, whilst also giving you a good energy boost from a pretty large dose of caffeine.
There is more, though. A weight loss diet can make you feel sluggish and lethargic. It can impair your cognitive abilities, giving you brain fog and making you feel listless. This comes at a time when you need energy to remain active, and focused and driven with the willpower required to stick to your weight loss plan.

How PhenGold Works
PhenGold works by aiding your weight loss efforts. As above, it cannot elicit weight loss on its own.
To lose weight, you need to put a suitable dietary and exercise plan in place. You need a calorie deficit – in other words, you need to eat less than you use. This will force your body to use up its energy reserves to make up the shortfall. As energy is stored as fat, this means burning through fat.
A daily deficit of around 500 calories will lead to a weekly weight loss of roughly 1lb, though this is far from exact. A daily deficit of around 1000 calories will lead to a weekly weight loss of roughly 2lbs, again inexactly.
You can find this deficit from a few places.
Firstly, and by far most effectively, you can eat less. Removing 500 calories from your daily intake should give you that 1 lb. weekly loss. For example, if you need to eat 2400 calories per day to maintain your current intake (this is your BMR, or basal metabolic rate), then cutting down to 1900 calories per day will elicit the weight loss you want.
A supplement like PhenGold can make this deficit easier to manage by suppressing your appetite and giving you more energy.
You can also create a deficit by burning more calories. This is chiefly done through physical activity. A daily run might be able to get you through an extra few hundred calories. Increasing your muscle mass will also raise your BMR, so building muscle can help you to burn fat (though the two are tricky to do at the same time).
PhenGold gives you the energy and focus you need to work out even during a calorie deficit.
You can also raise your BMR through increased thermogenesis. Plenty of the ingredients included in PhenGold’s formula, such as caffeine and cayenne pepper (see below), are well-known thermogenic compounds. They can force your body to burn an extra 50-100 calories per day. This can either help you to reach your 500 calorie goal, or it can make your weight loss more efficient by exceeding it with no extra work.
In reality, weight loss takes all of the above. Aim to eat 300 calories per day fewer than you need to maintain your current body weight. Perform an extra 200 calories’ worth of physical exercise. Ensure your thermogenic rate is optimal for weight loss. Everything should come together nicely, aided at every stage by PhenGold.
Then there is the cognitive side of things. As we will see, PhenGold includes generous doses of ingredients DMAE, l-theanine, and l-tyrosine, well known nootropic ingredients which should help with energy and focus when it is most needed (and most often found lacking).
As above, PhenGold is at heart an incredible fat burner. It manages this with a solid group of thermogenic ingredients.
Firstly, it gives you 200mg of cayenne pepper. It’s one of the best investigated fat burners going, and one of the most popularly included ones.
This popularity, and the efficacy its popularity is based on, comes from cayenne pepper’s natural capsaicin and carotenoids content. Both are known for their ability both to reduce your appetite and enhance your metabolism. 200 mg is more than most fat burning supplements offer, speaking plenty to PhenGold’s efficacy.
Then there is green tea and green coffee, both excellent metabolic boosters.
Obviously, you get a lot of caffeine in PhenGold, itself a potent thermogenic ingredient. Green tea and green coffee take this a little further, however.
Green coffee gives you a compound called chlorogenic acid. It brings a great many health benefits and may even be able to limit the amount of sugar and fat absorbable by your body. Meanwhile, green tea has a great deal of clinical data showing its benefits for your metabolic health, eliciting a great deal of thermogenesis whilst also delivering plenty of antioxidants.
PhenGold also comes with a good quality B vitamin complex, giving you ample amounts of vitamins B3, B6, and B12. Collectively, these vitamins help to maintain and regulate a healthy, optimal metabolism, to process fat and carbohydrates more effectively, and to convert fat into usable energy.
Then there is the nootropic side of things, beginning with 150 mg of DMAE. Dimethylaminoethanol is a naturally occurring substance within the human body. It aids brain function quite significantly, with exogenous intake proven to improve memory and brain function whilst also leading to elevated mood.
Next up, we have l-tyrosine and l-theanine.
L-tyrosine can aid concentration and focus. It enables your body to create three vital neurotransmitters – adrenaline, norepinephrine, and dopamine. These should combine to elevate your mood, give you more energy, and make life overall far more enjoyable.
L-theanine, meanwhile, has a dual purpose. I see it as a nootropic compound. It’s great for relieving stress and anxiety, with a strong link between its consumption and reduced overall stress levels. You should feel calmer when taking it, which will help with the anxiety that often surrounds a weight loss journey.
L-theanine might be a good thermogenic ingredient in its own right, too. However, the clinical data are a little mixed here, so it’s hard to say for sure.
Finally, we come to rhodiola rosea, one of my favorite ingredients. It’s often found in nootropics for its ability to reduce fatigue, both physical and mental. It should undo a lot of the fatigue inherent with under-eating whilst remaining active. You should also find your willpower and focus staying a little stronger with it, keeping you on track to meet your goals.
There is one more ingredient in the formula – Bioperine, or black pepper extract. It’s not necessarily an active ingredient, though there is evidence to suggest it has a thermogenic effect.
The main reason it’s here is much smarter, however. You will often see BioPerine or something similar in a supplement’s ingredients list due to its ability to increase every other ingredient’s bioavailability. Essentially, your body will use the other ingredients far more efficiently and effectively when combined with black pepper.
As above, all ingredients are natural and plant-based, making them suitable for most people.
Does PhenGold Work?
PhenGold works very well at what it sets out to do. It splits its focus between enabling healthy, optimal metabolic function, sating hunger, improving energy levels, and giving a good nootropic boost.
I began to see the latter two benefits after taking it for just a few days. The energy kick is immediate (caffeine is an acute drug, after all) – I used it sort of like a pre-workout supplement and had some really good gym sessions.
This also bleeds into the nootropic factor – brain fog will rarely survive a good caffeine kick. However, over time, this began to smooth out. My energy levels and cognitive clarity were longer lasting than you would typically get with caffeine, and came with none of the dips and peaks associated with it.
I managed to stick to a modest yet effective 500 calorie daily deficit for a period of 4 weeks. It definitely felt easier than usual because of PhenGold. It was also a little more productive than usual. I lost a good few pounds at a steady, quite brisk pace thanks to the extra thermogenesis on offer.
However, I should note that PhenGold’s split focus isn’t a good thing across the board. In taking some emphasis off the former benefits – appetite satiation and thermogenic response – PhenGold does undermine itself a little bit. You’ll still get the benefits, but the ingredients list for pure appetite satiation and thermogenesis is a little thin.
If you’re looking for something that will simply aid your ability to lose weight, there may be better options out there. I wouldn’t necessarily suggest them over PhenGold as I really do like the nootropic side of things, but they are there and they are good.
There are few side effects associated with PhenGold. All the ingredients are completely natural and shouldn’t cause any issue, unless you are allergic or particularly sensitive to anything in there – cayenne pepper may upset a few people. The caffeine content is also high, so if you have any reason to avoid or limit caffeine intake, consider going with another product.
PhenGold is also easy to take. Each bottle comes with a full month’s supply of 90 capsules. You should take three capsules together as a single dose, either a little while before breakfast or before a workout.
If three at once is too much caffeine for you, you can split it into three doses through the day (though be careful not to take it too late in the afternoon/evening as it can disrupt your sleep patterns).
PhenGold is great. If you struggle with brain fog, lethargy, and/or motivation during a weight loss program, it’s a fantastic supplement.
However, as above, there are better straight thermogenic fat burners out there. As above, PhenQ is by far one of the best.
Manufactured by Wolfson Berg, a very well-respected supplement company with a well-earned reputation for clinical rigor, PhenQ is a thermogenic fat burner with few equals, able to ramp up your metabolism and energy levels by quite a startling degree.
It will keep you feeling far fuller for far longer than PhenGold, with far greater rates of thermogenesis. It is also designed to improve your energy levels, mood, and mental clarity and focus (though far less so than PhenGold).
PhenQ combines some of the best thermogenic, fat burning ingredients going, all taken from high quality sources.
However, what really sets it apart is a compound it uses called A-Lacey’s Reset. This is a mix of alpha lipoic acid, magnesium and cysteine.
All of these ingredients aid weight loss, with a wealth of data supporting their use in reducing body fat levels. They will also all combine to offset fatigue and aid physical recovery and hypertrophy (muscle growth). You get a full, generous, very workable 25 mg of A-Lacy’s Reset per dose of PhenQ.
PhenGold serves a very specific function. It holds a very specific place in the thermogenic supplementation market. Yes, there are some supplements out there that are more effective as straight fat burners. There are some that are better appetite suppressants. However, there are few that will do so much for your cognitive health and wellbeing.
This brings you to a bit of a trade-off, one that I think PhenGold will generally win.
You could go with any number of single-minded thermogenic compounds. You could go for one that elicits thermogenesis whilst also suppressing your appetite. Doing so will likely allow you to hit your weight loss goals quite easily.
But at what cost?
Weight loss regimes make you sluggish and foggy headed. They reduce your energy levels. They are quite miserable at times and can take a lot of willpower to manage.
Using PhenGold may leave you a little short on thermogenesis, but it will plug this gap, keeping your mood and energy levels up, clearing your brain, and giving you the focus you need to hit your goals – and thus making the whole process more sustainable – that’s a pretty good trade off and as such PhenGold is well worth your consideration.
