Stan Grzybek
Fifty-nine year old Stan Grzybek is participating in the Hypertension Adherence trial currently being conducted by the Center for Connected Health.
Stan says that the orb that serves to remind him to take his blood pressure medication is also working to get his family members more involved and aware of his medical care. As a participant in the study to measure the effectiveness of simple behavioral strategies to improve adherence, an ambient orb on his kitchen counter lights up red or green, to indicate whether or not he has opened the pill bottle to take his daily medication.
“The orb serves as a visual alarm clock to remind me to take my medication every day.”
“I really think that this visual stimulus is more effective than anything else,” said Stan. “Plus, now, my family is also aware of whether or not I’ve taken my medication, which also helps to reinforce what I should be doing.”
