Nick Augustinos is healthcare director for the Cisco Internet Business Solutions Group (IBSG). He brings 22 years of broad managerial and consulting experience and expertise working in business-to-business and business-to-consumers applications and services. He has worked with a diverse range of leading healthcare customers including healthcare delivery systems, healthcare insurers and government/public organizations. Nick is leading the Global Healthcare Solutions for IBSG working with network architects, engineers and business development managers, providing direction and thought leadership on Connected Healthcare. Prior to Cisco he was Partner and Senior Strategic Consulting Expert, Global Health Services, for CSC. Prior to joining CSC, he was Vice President, Care Data Exchange for CareScience, leading product development and services in the clinical document sharing space. Nick was also Vice President for Healtheon/WebMD, responsible for marketing and sales for the company’s products and services. Prior to that, he was with Deloitte Consulting and was instrumental in establishing the healthcare practice for Deloitte’s San Francisco office, managing numerous projects for payers, providers, and integrated delivery networks. He started his career in healthcare as Vice President, Administration, of CliniShare. Nick Augustinos holds an Industrial Engineering degree from Athens, Greece, a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College, University of London, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Currently Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine and Advisor for Health and Medicine at the Center for the Study of the Presidency in Washington D.C.

Rear Admiral Susan Blumenthal, M.D., M.P.A., a champion for improving global health, served as Assistant Surgeon General of the United States, as the first ever Deputy Assistant Secretary of Women’s Health and as Senior Global Health and E-Health Advisor in the US Department of Health and Human Services. She has also been a White House advisor on health issues and a Research Branch Chief at the National Institutes of Health. With more than two decades of Federal government service as a leading government health official, Admiral Blumenthal has been a pioneer in bringing major public health issues including global health, women’s health, mental illness, and disease and violence prevention to increased public and scientific attention. She was a leader in the 1980’s in exposing the inequities in women’s health and in the 1990’s was the top doctor in the Federal government to stimulate and coordinate new initiatives to move women’s health issues to the forefront of our Nation’s health care agenda. She established the National Centers of Excellence on Women’s Health Program at academic centers across the country and the National Women’s Health Information Center. Dr. Blumenthal was also a pioneer in the government in applying information technology to improve health including establishing five award winning health websites and the “Missiles to Mammograms” initiative that transferred CIA, NASA and DOD imaging technology to improve the early detection of breast cancer. Most recently, she has been involved in advancing global health, the national response to bioterrorism and emerging disease threats including pandemic flu. Dr. Blumenthal currently serves as Distinguished Advisor on Health and Medicine at the Center for the Study of the Presidency, where she leads the Center’s Health Agenda 2008 that is developing recommendations for the next Administration on health.

Paolo Bonato (MS ’89; PhD ’95) serves as Director of the Motion Analysis Laboratory at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston, MA. He is Assistant Professor in the Department of PM and R, Harvard Medical School, and an HST Affiliated Faculty Member. Dr. Bonato is IEEE Senior Member, IEEE EMBS AdCom elected member, and VP of ISEK. He is Editor-in-Chief of JNER and Associate Editor of IEEE TNSR and IEEE TITB. His research work is focused on wearable technology.

Cynthia Bouthot joined the British Consulate General as head of inward investment in October 2003 and was promoted to Consul, heading the Boston UK Trade and Investment team in July 2005. Prior to this, she was CEO and founder of a project management consultancy. Her previous experience includes Global Lead for Business Readiness for EMC’s Oracle ERP implementation, and Director of Industry Consulting with Benchmarking Partners. In Addition, Cynthia has served as Vice President of a sport marketing firm, Executive Director of a community charity, and Director of Management Systems for the Massachusetts Port Authority. Cynthia also worked in London as the Director of the Massachusetts Office for Trade and Investment. Cynthia started her career working as a financial analyst and internal auditor for Honeywell and Groupe Bull. Cynthia has a Bachelors of Science degree in Business with a concentration in Finance from Boston College, a Masters degree in International Economics and Finance from Brandeis University, and has taught business and management at college level.

Andrew Dreyfus is Executive Vice President of Health Care Services for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. In that position, he is responsible for the company’s health and wellness, performance measurement and improvement, and provider contracting and services divisions. He is also leading the development of a new collaborative initiative to improve the quality and safety of health care in Massachusetts. Andrew previously served as the first President of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, which works to expand access and reduce barriers to health care for Massachusetts residents. During his tenure, the Foundation awarded nearly $17 million in grants to community organizations and launched a series of policy initiatives, including the “Roadmap to Coverage”, which contributed to the successful passage of the state’s landmark 2006 Health Reform Law. Andrew is a member of the board of the Kenneth B. Schwartz Center, the Harvard Risk Management Foundation and the Board of Advisors for the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Center for Surgery and Public Health. Prior to joining the Foundation, Andrew served as Executive Vice President of the Massachusetts Hospital Association (MHA). At MHA, he led the development of nationally recognized initiatives to expand access to coverage, and improve quality and patient safety. Andrew’s previous professional experience includes serving as the Massachusetts Undersecretary of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, and as Director of Operations and Director of Communications in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Human Services.

John Glaser, PhD, is Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Partners HealthCare System, Inc. Previously, he was Vice President, Information Systems at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Prior to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dr. Glaser managed the Healthcare Information Systems consulting practice at Arthur D. Little. Dr. Glaser was the founding Chairman of College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) and is past President of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). He is past-President of the eHealth Initiative and has been a member of the Board of the American Medical Informatics Association. Dr. Glaser is the Senior Advisor for National HIT Adoption for CHIME. He is a Senior Advisor to the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions. He is a fellow of HIMSS, CHIME and the American College of Medical Informatics. He has been awarded the John Gall award for healthcare CIO of the year. CHIME has established a scholarship in Dr. Glaser’s name. He was elected to CIO Magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame. Partners HealthCare has received several industry awards for its effective and innovative use of information technology. Dr. Glaser has published over one hundred articles and four books on the strategic application of information technology in healthcare. He holds a Ph.D. in Healthcare Information Systems from the University of Minnesota.

Thomas H. Lee, MD, is an internist and cardiologist, and is Network President for Partners Healthcare System, the integrated delivery system founded by Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital, and Chief Executive Officer for Partners Community HealthCare. He is a graduate of Harvard College, Cornell University Medical College, and Harvard School of Public Health. He is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health. His research interests include risk stratification and optimal management strategies for common cardiovascular problems, and improvement of quality of care, with a particular focus on critical pathways, guideline development and implementation, and managed care. Dr. Lee is co-chair of the Committee for Performance Measures of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and has been the Chairman of NCQA’s Cardiovascular Measurement Advisory Panel since 1996. He is a member of the Massachusetts Health Care Quality and Cost Council. He is a member of the Boards of Directors of Geisinger Health System and of Bridges to Excellence. He is a member of the Board on Health Care Services of the Institute of Medicine. He is the Editor-in-Chief for The Harvard Heart Letter and Associate Editor of The New England Journal of Medicine.

In January 2006, John Loonsk was appointed director of the Office of Interoperability and Standards in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). In this role, he is responsible for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN), the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), and the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT). Before assuming that position, he was Associate Director for Informatics at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In that capacity he was instrumental in architecting the National Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NEDSS), leading the creation of the Public Health Information Network, initiating the BioSense program, and advancing the field of Public Health Informatics at the CDC and nationally. He received his medical training at the State University of New York at Buffalo after graduating from the Johns Hopkins University. Through advanced degree work, research and administration he has pursued a medical career that balanced medicine and information technology in academic medical centers and government with interests in internetworked health care, just in time information delivery, surveillance, digital libraries, and decision support.

Joe is Associate Director of the Center for Connected Health at Partners HealthCare and focuses on policy, contracting, and corporate-sponsored research. The founder and organizing chair of an annual symposium at the Conference Center of Harvard Medical focusing on critical issues associated with connected health, Mr. Ternullo also serves on the board of directors and as Vice President of Continua Health Alliance, on the Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital institutional review boards, and on the American Telemedicine Association’s policy committee. In 2007, Mr. Ternullo was appointed to serve on the American Health Information Community Chronic Care Workgroup, a federal advisory body chartered to make recommendations to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on accelerating the development and adoption of health information technology. He also serves as Associate Director of the Northeast Telehealth Resource Center, a consortium operating through a grant from the Office for the Advancement of Telehealth. Mr. Ternullo has earned degrees from Boston College, Bentley College, Boston University and Harvard.
