Susan Edgman-Levitan, PA, Executive Director, MGH Stoeckle Center for Primary Care Innovation

Susan is a lecturer in MGH's Department of Medicine and a Harvard Medical School health policy associate.  Susan was the founding president of the Picker Institute, formerly directed planning for the Health and Hospitals Corporation of NYC and was an assistant professor at Duke University Medical School (Duke).  Susan has been the co-principal investigator on the Harvard Consumer Assessment of Health Plans Study (CAHPS) study since 1995 and has served as chair of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s (IHI) Breakthrough Series Collaborative on Improving Service Quality.  Susan is the IHI fellow for patient and family-centered care.  She is an editor of Through the Patient’s Eyes, a book on creating and sustaining patient centered care, the CAHPS Improvement Guide, and has authored numerous papers and other publications.  Susan serves on several boards including the National Patient Safety Foundation, the Center for Information Therapy, the Foundation for Informed Medical Decision Making, Planetree, and the American Academy on Physician and Patient.  She has co-chaired the annual NPSF Congress on Patient Safety since 2002. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Duke's Physician Assistant program, Susan received the Distinguished Alumni award from the Duke was inducted into Duke's Hall of Fame in 2004.
