Hon Pak, MD, U.S. Army Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center, Medical Research & Material Command

Dr Pak is the US Army's director of advanced information technology.  He is responsible for integrating advanced medical technologies throughout the department of defense military healthcare system. Prior to this assignment, he served at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center as chief of dermatologic surgery and at Brooke Army Medical Center as the associate program director of the combined Army-Air Force SAUSHEC Dermatology Residency, and chief of teledermatology of Great Plains Regional Medical Command. Since 2000, he has served as the Army Surgeon General's consultant for teledermatology and is internationally recognized as a telemedicine leader and innovator. Dr Pak has conducted extensive research and published numerous articles and chapters on telemedicine, teledermatology, and general dermatology. He started his military career as an enlisted combat medic in 1983 and subsequently entered the US Military Academy, graduating in 1989 as a distinguished graduate and awarded the highest honor in chemistry. He attended USUHS and while in uniform has been stationed in a variety of domestic and international locations.  LTC Pak is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Sulzberger Institute, serves as the as member of the telemedicine taskforce of the American Academy of Dermatology, and has been appointed assistant professor of dermatology at USUHS.  He is currently president-elect of the American Telemedicine Association, a member of its Board of Directors, and Chair of its Standards and Guideline Committee. He has received numerous military awards and meritorious service medals.
