Astro Teller, PhD, CEO, BodyMedia, Inc.

Astro oversees BodyMedia, the leading company in unobtrusive wearable wireless body monitors.  BodyMedia’s technology delivered medical-grade information on energy expenditure and sleep state information in a package awarded 2004 top honors in the over-the-counter category by the Medical Design Excellence Awards and which the Industrial Design Society of America gave “the world's most prestigious recognition for excellence” in 2003. Prior to founding BodyMedia, Astro was co-founder, chairman and CEO of Sandbox Advanced Development, an organization focused on  working with international companies to help them reinvent and productively deploy their technologies in new markets.  Astro's work includes teachering at Stanford University, an algorithmic consultant at Phoenix Laser Technologies, a researcher at Stanford's Center for Integrated Systems, and a senior engineer at Carnegie Group Incorporated. Astro holds a bachelor of science in computer science and a masters of science in symbolic and heuristic computation, both from Stanford University.  Dr. Teller completed his Ph.D. in artificial intelligence at Carnegie Mellon University and was inducted as a national Hertz fellow. He holds 6 patents and numerous patent filings relating to BodyMedia technology.  His work in science, literature, art, and business has appeared in the New York Times, CNN, and NPR's "All Things Considered."
